Sketchbook Pages: Sunsets
I never considered myself a landscape painter, but that changed when I resolved in 2012 to paint scenes from my own life exclusively. This decision forced me to embrace landscapes, and I quickly fell in love with the subject.
Sunsets became (and remain) my favorite inspiration because of the prominence of silhouettes, as bright, colorful skies shroud the foreground in shadow. This creates a dramatic, high-contrast image, reduces detail, and makes the scene easier to translate into paint.
My sketchbooks are brimming with sunset paintings, and I'm excited to share a selection with you today.
